On May 26, the editorial work exchange meeting for the Chronicle of Hubei Expressway Construction was held at the Hubei Provincial Department of Transportation. The event was attended by Mr. Huang Zhendong, former Minister of Transport and Chairman of the Editorial Committee for the Chronicle of China Expressway Construction.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Jiang Yousheng, Chief Engineer and Party Leadership Group Member of the Hubei Provincial Department of Transportation. Also in attendance were Inspector Xu Jian, Mr. Chen Xin (President of the Hubei Transportation History and Culture Society), and representatives from the department’s Construction Division, Expressway Authority, Highway Management Division, and editorial task force.
Mr. Jiang expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Transport and Minister Huang for their longstanding support of Hubei’s transportation development. He noted that Hubei has attached great importance to the compilation of the Chronicle, launching the project quickly and executing it efficiently. To date, the draft manuscript has reached 1.25 million words. The next phase will focus on refining content, improving mechanisms, and meeting deadlines, with the goal of fully documenting the province’s expressway development journey and achievements.
In his remarks, Minister Huang highlighted that by the end of last year, Hubei’s total expressway mileage reached 6,204 kilometers, ranking among the top in China. He affirmed that Hubei’s compilation efforts are progressing well in both quality and efficiency, reflecting the province’s key role in China’s national transportation network.
Minister Huang outlined five key expectations:
1. Align with the latest requirements, address gaps, and ensure accuracy in all data and descriptions.
2. Use the chronicle to examine integration between expressways and local road networks, with precise documentation of every route.
3. Recognize that Hubei is involved in 13 routes of the “71118” National Expressway Network, underscoring the large editorial workload and the province’s strategic importance.
4. Showcase the province’s strengths in bridge and tunnel construction, which often represent national benchmarks.
5. Emphasize the spirit and culture of expressway development, capturing the technical challenges, innovation, and distinctive projects that define Hubei’s achievements.
The chronicle is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of next year, contributing a comprehensive record of Hubei’s highway milestones.
